good book for beginners

This is a good book for beginners for players who need to learn the basics. The dvd is okay. this has not been my favorite book but the pool advice is okay.

This guy, Mathew Sherman, just like to hear himself talk. If you have a hard time sleeping just plug in this DVD. I just wanted to know what time it is and not only is he telling how the watch is made he's telling me where all the parts came from . This book and DVD are a waste of time and money. Buy "How to Play Pool Right" - a much better item.

As a new billiards player, I find this book to be comprehensive and easy to understand. Very good for beginning and intermediate players.

It is good to finally have a book and video together. Some books seem to want to sell you something extra; here it is all in one spot for one price. The explainations are clear and the video goes along with the book chapter by chapter. I wish I had this when I was starting because I would be further along.

Wrong conclusion

It would seem that I drew the wrong Conclusion when I read "Step by step instructions" on both the book cover and the email promoting this product. Then it goes on to say, "Learn Expert Tips For Beginners and Skilled Players".
Well, I am far from being a skilled player and I do know which end of the cue is to hit the white ball with. Yet, this book and DVD has to show me any "tips" that I do not already know. Even in the areas I was specifically looking for this product fell far short of my expectations and satisfaction. This was a waste of money in my opinion.
My rating of one star was forced by the computer as I would not even give it that much credit.

Great book, saw an improvement in my game in the first 4 chapters and elemenated 2 faults in my approach. Written in a conversational style. Does not 'preach' how to ideas. I think that any level of player would benefit. What makes it especially good is the accompanying DVD which follows the book.

DVD excellent

Instructions are realistic and easy to understand. My game has improved substantially and I'm not yet finished with all of the chapters. I have honestly not yet read the book, but even if I never do, the DVD was worth the cost. My only frustration is that I'm left handed and have to reverse what I see in my mind.
