Jump shot learned within a day, break improving steadily
By Curtis from Taft, CA on March 6, 2014
Still figuring out how I should break with this beast, but last time out I was able to pot 3 balls on the break (8-ball) twice. My jump shot came pretty easily with this cue, my first day owning it I was at league when I needed to jump. I had never jumped before but watched a video online so I went for it. Potted my ball and the bar went wild.. then I missed the 8 for the win directly afterwards and the guy ran out, haha. Still fun!

Very Disapointed
By Gene Drerup from Paris, Tn. 38242 on January 29, 2014
Does not have a pro taper. it has a LePro tip, not the hard tip. Very Good price. Straight, well balanced. Only disappointments are the taper and tip.

Solid break stick
By C from Central Florida on October 15, 2013
I used a friend's break stick and realized what a difference it made. The solid feel and harder tip allows me to use more strength without being concerned about damage to the shaft or the tip. Haven't tried the jump yet but appreciate the fact that it's there. The connections are easy to unscrew (which makes for a fast switch to jump) but at times will loosen by themselves. That's the only downside. Just make sure that all parts are secure before using. I also use it when I have to use a bridge since the shaft is larger. It sits more securely in the bridge.

Great cue
By Dennis from , on September 21, 2013
This cue plays well and has improved my breaking. It's not fancy but does the job. I tried a rage breaking cue and this is definitely a huge upgrade from that.

Great starter Break jump cue
By okiej from Cushing, Oklahoma on April 18, 2013
I bought this so I can always break with a familiar cue and also to learn legal jumps. This is my first time in a pool league/BCA. They just legalized the phenolic tip which hits very hard. I made my first 8 on break in a tournament a few days ago with this. Before I didn't even try to do 8 on break. The large shaft and 14mm tip gave me the confidence and consistency I needed to go for the 8 on break (doesn't count in my league play, but does in a lot of tournaments) A friend who can jump tried it and said it was good for jumps also. I am working on that part of the game now. I am very happy with this cue.

Jumps great
By Dan from , on March 19, 2013
I break badly onn this cue, but that could be me. I like having my own b cue cause its clean. I like it cause I didn't have to break the bank, although it is boring. However my jump shots are much better.

Great buy for the money.
By Charles from Belle Vernon, PA on February 13, 2013
I never jump,so I can't comment on the qualities of this cue as a jump cue,but I love it as a break cue. I average one ball per break in 8-ball,though 2 or 3 balls is not uncommon for me. I bought it as a 19 ounce cue, same as my playing cues, and I love the speed I get with it.

Big Bang for Few Bucks
By RJ from Central Pennsylvania on February 6, 2013
I wanted a dedicated break cue for my home table to help out folks who normally have trouble making a good break (and I enjoy it, too). I ordered 21oz but recieved an 18, which will be remedied soon. Even at 18oz, this thing has a ton of punch. Can't wait to get it loaded with weight.

I would recommend this item to a friend.

Effective at what it says it will do.
By Wade from Tuscaloosa, AL on January 21, 2013
I've got about 100 breaks and a couple of hours of jump practice on this JB5, and am pleased with its performance. There is no real break-in period with this type of tip or shaft...it's pretty much ready to play right out of the box.

Like: The shaft is solid and I feel confident in the equipment during my breaks/jumps (much more confident in the equipment than the shooter! Haha). I purchased the 19oz....1 oz. lighter than my previous break cue. I think it was a wise decision and I get good pop with the JB5. There's no (or very little) flex and the 14mm shaft/tip feel rock solid and ever stable...that's what I look for in a jump/break anyway.

Not like as much: No real complaints. The joint isn't my favorite. There's a little play in the screw (thus a little wobble in the shaft when joining/breaking apart). That doesn't translate negatively to the play - very solid there - just doesn't have that solid feel when locking/unjoining. I had to spend 15-20 minutes with a razor blade and goo-be-gone carefully removing the product sticker from the butt area, which was a bit irritating; I hate take a blade & chemicals to any part of a cue! But it came out alright.

Play: Like I said - it's very solid and good at what it says it will do. Very nice for a combo cue if you want a combo and like the sub-$100 price range for such. For fun, I played 10 racks or so with it as my primary cue. I won't dare make that a permanent thing - but it actually has surprisingly good action and play if you keep your tip offset minimized...say within a maximum of 3/4 cue tip from center-ball. It holds chalk well for a break tip and I only have to clean the shaft about once for every 3 or 4 times I clean my regular-play cue.

Overall, I'm happy with my purchase. I wanted a solid jump/break combo at, or a little less than $100. I'm a serious (yet amateur) home and local tournament player, and this cue really serves my needs and does exactly what I expect out of it. I'd buy another should the need arise...and I recommend for anyone looking for a matching need.

Simple and Essential!
By Tucker from Atlanta on January 4, 2013
Just got this yesterday and played several games with it last night, performed to expectation right out of the gate! Chose a 21oz cause I generally go for a full power break and like the weight behind it. I upgraded the tip to the hard Predator Victory to avoid any potential qualification issues with phenolic tips, and I love it and would also recommend this upgrade to anyone considering an excellent tip. With the Predator tip it has a powerful but fluid break feel, no "click" sometimes associated with harder tips. The 14mm shaft gives you great power in your follow through with having a large contact point on the cue ball, which I'm really liking. Im not doing much with masses and jumps but wanted to have a jump cue for when I wanted to delve into those shots, and this jump break from Players definitely seems to have great reviews for a reason. Really happy to have purchased it with Ozone and stoked to see how it's going to elevate my game in future matches, over only having inconsistent house cues for the break! So far, A+ and a great value.

Great Combo with my Players G2252 Stick
By Brandon G. from Island Heights, New Jersey on January 3, 2013
When I break with this cue, it is solid. I haven't learned how to jump yet but I am sure it wouldn't be any problem with this stick. It is a great match with my Players G2252 playing cue, thus leading to a better all-around game. Players cues are of great quality, especially for under $100! You can't beat it!

Very good cue overall
By Lij from Jamaica on December 19, 2012
The Players JB5 plays very smooth, nice compact hit. My only issue is that the joint for the jump section came with a slightly bad threading which makes it a little hard to tighten/loosen.

Hits hard with little effort
By Dan from Northern Virgina on December 10, 2012
Great jump/break cue for the money. My friends love it and beg me to let them use it instead of house cues for their breaks. I used the jump portion to learn how to make legal jumps, and it was a breeze. I recommend getting the maximum weight.

Great cue.
By Gary from Ithaca, NY on September 21, 2012
Great cue. Not only is it a great cue for the money, but it's just a great cue. I love Players cues for lower priced cues, and this one certainly exceeded my expectation. It hits rock solid, shaft has straight grain, and the jump cue section is extremely light and jumps very well.

Great Breaker - Great Price
By Maynard G. Krebbs from Detroit Area on July 19, 2012
I ordered the 19 oz so as to have a similar feel to my player. I am amazed at the brute force that I can apply to the cue ball; yesterday I sank three nines on the break over the course of several hours of play. The sound it makes is a bit odd (like an aluminum bat) but I'm assuming that's due to the hard tip and heavy duty ferrule. If you want a great break/jump cue for under $150, this is your best choice.

Works Great!
By Mark Szabo from Hamilton, NJ on April 7, 2012
It definitely takes some getting used to. I played about 22 games before I really dialed it in. Esentially, dead center on the cue ball and smash it good. A few of my teammates tried breaking with it and kept popping the cue ball of the table. They kept trying to put draw on the cue ball like they would with a normal break cue.

I play APA pool, so jump cues are not allowed. I think this is a stupid rule, but it's supposed to keep everyone on a level playing field. As such, I haven't tried using it as a jump cue full-length yet (which is legal in APA.)

Great Bargain Break Cue
By Christopher from Harlingen, TX on December 2, 2011
Feel of the cue, and playstyle is very comfortable for me. I cannot complain with the bang for my buck that I got off this cue, quick release always helpful, great hard tip for jumping

Only concern I had is that about 2weeks into using this, the tip literally flew about 30ft across the pool hall on a break. Im assuming it just wasnt glue'd down with the best of things. Nothing a simple re-attachment couldn't fix. Just glad I was able to find the tip and it didn't get lost resulting in me buying another tip.

Still would recommend this product to anyone looking to buy a starting break cue, great performance, without paying for the big buck items.

Players JB5 "Jump-Break" Cue, A well kept secret?
By Michael from Covington, GA on September 27, 2011
I purchased the JB5 for my son. I felt like this would be a pretty good cue for him to learn how to,"correctly" jump a ball. Even though it wasn't a very costly Jump-break cue, it was made by "PLAYERS", and I trusted the name. I personally use a more expensive Jump-Cue, and I've been playing for approx. 40 plus years.
During that time, I suppose I have owned, or played with just about every know brand on the market. So, I was quite suprised in the out come of a shot I made using my sons, JB5, instead of using my own, that Ive
had for several years! It was during our, ( 9 ball league night ), and I had snookered myself behind the
7-ball, and didn't have any other option, but to jump the ball, to make a good hit on the 6-ball, which was next in rotation. My son asked me to try his new JB5, (that i had just recently purchased for him). Normally,
I would have declined and use my own, but, I felt like he would have been disappointed if I refused his offer.
Well, to my suprise, this Cue performed the shot with "EASE"! Actually, with greater ease than my "VERY
OWN", Well Known, and Very Expensive Jump Cue! I would tell you the brand of my Cue, but I don't want
to embarrass anyone! To tell the truth, The Players JB5, plays as good,( if not better ), than "MY"Jump-Cue
that I payed over $300.00 for! With this being said,A well kept secret about the Players JB5 "Jump-Break" is now,"OUT OF THE BAG"! I hope they don't raise the price of this cue, but, at this price,It's a,"REAL STEAL"!

Great Break Cue
By Jasper from Las Vegas, Nevada on September 21, 2011
I bought this cue because I am tired of borrowing a friends break cue. I mainly play 9 ball and this cue is outstanding. I can feel my break and the cue can withstand the pressure that I put to it whenever I break. I cannot really comment on how it handles jumps since I have never use it to jump but I know that the functionality is there when I need it (main reason I bought it). Great cue for its price.

Solid and Powerful
By John from Minneapolis, MN on September 12, 2011

Linear Thunder
By Myron S from San Jose, CA on August 13, 2011
The first time I broke with this cue, the 8-ball went into the side pocket on a standard nine foot table. Out local rules specify that as a win, so I was thrilled.

Since then, I have not have not been that fortunate, but my breaks are definitely more powerful. This cue has a bit wider shaft than my shooting cues (14 mm vs 13 mm tip). I purchased the same weight as my shooting cue so the weight ballance is more forward toward the tip resulting in a more powerful feel.

With the wider tip, and I shaped it a bit shallower (slightly shallower than a nickel). I have been able to put a little backspin on my breaks and have not had the cue ball fly off the table. With my older cue that I used to break, I would gtet a flyer about once every 12-20 breaks. Frustrating to make a couple balls on the break only to lose the turn due to a cue ball on the floor.

I am not making remarkably more balls on the break, but the action continues noticably longer so it stands to reason that I am increasing my odds.

Great Value
By Michael from New York, NY on March 30, 2011
Started playing league recently and noticed that every team had at least one break cue so I decided to buy one for my team to use. I did not want to spend a ton of money and I already have 2 other Players cues and love them both. I shoot with an 18oz and a 19oz cue but ordered this cue in the 21oz flavor. I love the feeling of a light cue when I shoot but I'm 6'3" and around 210lbs and breaking with a light cue just feels odd to me. I know there is a lot of debate on light vs heavy break cues, but personally I went on feeling alone and put physics aside. If I ever get to the point where my game is good enough to benefit from the physics of an 18oz cue i'll buy another. Besides I mostly play on bar tables and with most cues I cannot break full speed/strength without risking bouncing the cue ball off the table. Bottom line is that its well worth the money.

Good quality Jump-Break Cue
By Paul van Kasteren from Amsterdam, The Netherlands on December 11, 2010
This is my first jump-break cue. I used to break with a house cue, but the hard tip on this Players cue puts more speed in my break. Also on my third attempt (ever) I jumped the cue ball over a ball and potted the target. The grip is a bit slippery but I think that will improve over time. For an average league player like me this is a fine choice!

I bought this cue after my buddy bought the JB6 model and I totally love it. The hard tip that comes on the cue is awesome for breaking and I've seen a much improved game in my breaking skills. You can't beat $80 for a solid break cue. I think it shoots well above what it's priced at.

Nice Stick, Great Service
By Tim from Kennesaw, GA on October 2, 2010
After deciding I needed to step up from house cue to break cue, I purchased this cue. With much research it sounded like many people were suggesting lighter weight for higher velocity so I ordered the cue in 18oz. It broke great but I just wasn't comfortable with how light it was. I went over to Ozone (I live locally) and they changed out the weights for me on the spot to make it 21oz. It breaks even better for me now and I am comfortable with the weight. Thanks for a good cue and great service.

Great "Bang" for the bucks
By Del from ,Lexington, SC on July 4, 2010
Hadn't played for years, and found my old cue while moving furniture to lay new carpet. Went to the local joint to see if I could still sink a ball or two. And it beats golf (you don't have to wait for the "beer" cart). A couple of the guys were using a combination break / Jump cue - I'd never seen one, as I had always used a house cue to break. As I had already decided to start playing again I decided that this would be my first acquisition.

In looking for the best price point the Players JB5 from Ozone has to be the best. Free case, free shipping, and fast delivery, The cue is very nice, I feel that I got more for my $$$ than I expected. Breaks very well, and I've started practicing with the Jump setup. Great product, excellent company. Will do business with Ozone for all my pool product purchases.

SWEET,SUPERB, LITTTLE STICK
By mary a from nyc on May 11, 2010
I wanted this break cue for awhile and when they finally had it back in stock at ozone i jumped to buy it.
the reviews by others were all sterling and so i had great expectations.
well they were not only met but exceeded.
I do not play eight ball or 9 ball as much as i play straight or 14.1 so having a straight firm shot is a must and to my surprise this sweet little stick plays as well as some of my much more expensive cues. Yes, I said play and not break. I discovered this when i took the bag it was in without checking to see that my playing cue was there as wel. off i went to the pool room and when I got there I didn't feel like a walk home to get another cue and too stubborn to use a house cue; so I played with this cue and was delighted. The hard tip , and beautiful straight shaft reminded me of my poison cue and so I played and beat two of my fellow players .

I enjoyed the clean breaks when we changed over to some friendly games of 8 ball and i more than held my own after dinner when i played a race to 7 in 9 ball. The breaks were clean and dispersed the balls making pocketing a few on opening a real joy.

Now I take this cue in my bag and am delighted with it. A real sweet little gem of a stick

WHAT A SURPRISE, AND A PLEASANT ONE AT THAT!!!
By mary a from nyc on May 6, 2010
I bought this as a break cue based on the reviews as well as trying out a friends cue.
to my surpirse it is not only a great breaking cue but plays well. if ususlaly play with a posison or predator depending on the lenght of the match and the game. so when i found that I had only loaded this cue in my 2 cue case by mistake i was a little put off thinking i would have to play a game iwth the house cues. at his hall they are less tan playable so i said i would tuff it out with tis one.
I play staright pool and 8 ball and this was a straight pool match with my friend and instructor. on the break I sank the 1 ball and made a lovely break doing only what was needed to set me up for the run.
\The cue is straight as an arrow and though the click heard when cue meets ball is audible the combination of precision and comfort (it is beautifully balanced) lead to one of the best games i have ever played. Thus my surprise.
this is under $80.00 and plays like a much more expensive cue.

my point is it is so straight and unwaverring that is will now use it not only as a break cue but as my back up to my poison cue for its precision and gracefullness.

Solid Cue
By Jake from Chicago on April 15, 2010
This cue breaks with a solid hit. It has a nice firm feel as you stroke through the cue ball. Joint releases quickly & effortlessly. I haven't used the cue to jump very much. But in practicing, the jump cue gets the cue air borne easily. Overall, a great value in a J/B cue.

I have been using this cue now for about a month. I mostly play nine ball. Before I would make 1 or 2 balls on the break, but now it is nothing for me to make 3 or 4. I am absolutely crushing the balls. As for jumping, it works well. I have no problem jumping with this cue.
Pros:
Great value for the price.
Cons:
none

Great cue!

I recently got my JB5 and I love it! A little sanding and burnishing and this cue shatters the tightest racks across the whole table. The breaks are just as good as the Predators and jumps are crispy and predictable. Definitely a well made cue for a much lower price than the competition.
Pros:
Well made, solid joint, fat shaft, great tip, well-balanced!
Cons:
None

I would recommend this item to a friend.

Excellent for the price!

I bought this hoping it would help a friend who uses my cues during league play with her breaks. I didn't expect it to help me much, if at all. I'm happy to say that I was 100% wrong! The difference in feel from a leather tip to the phenolic tip was apparent from the first break, and the spread I get (as well as my friend) is better with less effort required. I can subsequently concentrate on control instead of maximum power, and have made 2 8-ball breaks because of the control I now have. I still haven't become profficient at jumping with the cue, but others have used it and shown that it does work well.
Pros:
Price, more control and power on breaks, solid joint feel, good aesthetics for the price range
Cons:
only 2 styles to choose from in the series (each is nice looking, but I'd like more variety), no other cons discovered during play

I would recommend this item to a friend.

very impressed

I\'m kind of a cue snob. I bought this cue for my father-in-law so he would quit breaking with his playing cue. It breaks a ton! I like it better than the high-end break cues my friends and I normally use! I\'m getting my own!
