It's All About the Shaft

Looking at the cue, there is nothing fancy in terms of its design. I mean, it's black with a black and white dotted wrap; pretty standard looking break cue. I have been playing for over ten years and this is the first break cue that I have bought. There is definitely a difference between breaking with this cue and with my shooting cue, which is also a Viking that is about fifteen years old, so it lacks newer shaft technology.
The V-Crush shaft feels more solid and like it flexes less when I break with it, providing more power transfer to the cue ball. I have had this cue for almost two months now and I love the V-Crush shaft.
The one issue that I had is that the phenolic tip that came on the cue broke. It split in half right down the middle and I hadn’t even owned the cue for two months. In all likelihood I was unfortunate and got a defective tip, which happens occasionally. oZone Billiards offered to send me any tip I wanted to replace the defective tip or to let me ship the shaft back to them and have them replace it. Since I had already replaced it, this wasn’t necessary and I told customer service that I appreciated their offer to replace the tip and didn’t ask for anything to “fix the situation.” oZone Billiards refunded 10% of my purchase price on their own accord to correct the situation.
In the brief time I have used the cue with the Samsara tip that I had installed to replace the original phenolic tip, I have loved it and prefer the new tip to the original phenolic tip. Look up the reviews for the Samsara break tip on this site and see how many other people love it too. I can definitely see (cue ball retains spin as it doesn’t ‘slid’ of the hard phenolic tip) and feel (it breaks a little softer than the phenolic, but still provides great energy transfer to the cue ball) the difference with the tip.
Overall, I like the cue and would recommend it to others looking for a reasonably priced break cue. I would have given it five stars if it wasn't for the tip breaking. In addition to the cue, I would recommend installing a Samsara tip on it. More importantly than that, I would recommend oZone Billiards to anyone looking to purchase billiards supplies, because they have excellent customer service and provide quality products within days of ordering.
I would recommend this item to a friend.
