Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Slate and Non-Slate (MDF) pool tables?

Slate is the gold standard for pool tables. It is a natural stone that is precision-leveled, providing a perfectly flat playing surface that will never warp. MDF (wood-core) tables are lighter and more affordable but are prone to sagging or warping over time and do not offer the same professional ball roll.

Why is "3-Piece Slate" better than 1-piece slate?

3-piece slate is easier (and safer) to transport into homes with stairs or narrow hallways. 1-peice slate tables can be easier to install since lining up each piece of slate in a multi-slate table, can be tricky.

How much space do I really need for a pool table?

The most critical measurement is "stroke room." You need at least 5 feet (60 inches) of clearance around the entire perimeter of the table's playing surface. This ensures that when the cue ball is against the rail, you have enough room for a full backswing without hitting a wall or furniture. For exact room dimension and other considerations, check out our How to Build a Game Room Around a Pool Table ZONE article.

What are the standard sizes for pool tables?

  • 7-Foot (Bar Size): Ideal for smaller rooms or players who compete in "Bar Box" leagues.
  • 8-Foot (Home Standard): The most popular size for residential game rooms; it provides a professional feel without requiring a massive space.
  • 9-Foot (Pro Size): The regulation size used in professional tournaments and high-end billiard halls; requires a very large room.

Do you offer professional pool table installation?

Yes. Because a pool table can weigh between 700 and 1,000 lbs, we highly recommend professional installation. We have a nationwide network of authorized technicians who will deliver, assemble, level, and felt your table to ensure it plays perfectly from day one. For more details, see our Pool Table Delivery & Installation page.

Can I choose a custom felt color?

Absolutely. Most of our tables allow you to choose from a wide variety of felt colors to match your home decor. Beyond the traditional "Tournament Green," we offer popular shades like Electric Blue, Charcoal, Burgundy, Camel and more.

Is it safe to put a pool table on a second floor?

In most modern homes built to standard code, a second-floor installation is perfectly safe. A 1,000 lb. table distributes its weight across four to six legs, resulting in a "pounds-per-square-foot" load similar to a few adults standing in a group. However, we always recommend checking with a contractor if you have an older home.

How do I maintain my pool table?

Keep it covered when not in use to prevent dust and sunlight damage. Use a specialized pool table brush to sweep chalk dust toward the pockets after every session. Never use a standard vacuum with a beater bar, as it can stretch and ruin the felt. For more detail, check out our Pool Table Maintenance ZONE article

Can I move the pool table myself once it is installed?

We strongly advise against it. Even moving a table a few inches can knock it out of level or, worse, "pop" the beeswax seals between the slate pieces, requiring a professional to come out and re-level/re-felt the entire unit.

Does the table come with cues and balls?

Most of our tables include a "Starter Accessory Kit" which typically features a set of billiard balls, two cues, a bridge stick, a triangle rack, and chalk. We also offer premium accessory upgrades if you want higher-end tournament balls or professional-grade cues. The most common items purchased that don't come with most pool tables are Table Covers, Cue Racks, and Table Lights.
