What's In A Great Case

Protect your investment and take your gear anywhere with the perfect case.

Hard vs. Soft

The shell is the first line of defense for your cues.

Hard Cases: Utilize a rigid frame (often PVC or wood) to provide maximum impact protection against drops and heavy travel.

Soft Cases: Made from padded fabrics or leather. They are lightweight, flexible, and perfect for the casual player who wants portability without the bulk.

Portability

How do you plan to carry it?

Single Shoulder Strap: The classic way to carry a case over one shoulder.

Backpack Straps: Becoming very popular for 3x5 cases or larger, distributing weight across both shoulders for long walks into the pool hall.

Side Handles: Essential for quick grabs and loading into a vehicle.

Size / Configuration

A cue case's primary job is to store & carry your cues so be sure you look for one that fits the number of butts & shafts you want to carry.

Plan For The Future: Buy the size you're going to need down the road, not just the one that fits your gear today.

Interior

What’s on the inside matters most. Look for interiors that keep your gear snug and separated.

Molded Tubes: Individual rigid tubes that prevent cues from knocking against each other.

Padded Dividers: Soft, lined sleeves that offer scratch protection and a more compact fit.

Moisture Control: Many high-end cases feature moisture-wicking linings to prevent warp-causing humidity.

Pockets: You're going to be carrying more than just your cue so be sure to have a place for chalk, glove, tip tool, or even bottle opener.

Exterior

This defines both the style and the durability of your case.

Leather: The gold standard for longevity and classic "pro" aesthetics.

Vinyl/Synthetic: Offers great water resistance and comes in a massive variety of colors and patterns.

Nylon: Extremely durable and tear-resistant, often found on "sport" or "tactical" style cases.

Pockets: Oh, have we said pockets already? That's right, the more extra spots you've got to stash stuff the happier you'll be.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do the numbers like "2x2" or "3x5" mean in cue cases?

These numbers indicate the carrying capacity of the case. The first number represents the number of Butts, and the second represents the number of Shafts. For example, a 2x4 case holds 2 cue butts and 4 shafts. This allows you to carry your primary cue, a break cue, and multiple backup or specialty shafts.

What is the difference between a Hard Case and a Soft Case?

  • Hard Cases: Constructed with a rigid tube or molded interior (often PVC or wood) covered in vinyl, felt or leather. They offer maximum protection against impacts, "crushing," and temperature changes.
  • Soft Cases: Made from padded fabric or flexible synthetic materials. They are lightweight and easier to carry but provide less protection against heavy impacts or bending pressure.

Will my 30-inch or "Long" shaft fit in a standard case?

Standard cases are typically designed for 29-inch shafts (the industry standard). If you use an extension or a custom 30-inch shaft, look for cases specifically labeled as "XL" or "Long." Always measure your longest piece before purchasing to ensure the lid can close securely.

How much storage space do the pockets provide?

Most cases feature two pockets. The small top pocket is designed for chalk, tip tools, and spare tips. The large bottom pocket is usually long enough to hold a jump cue butt, an extension, or a bridge head. Cases can be all shapes and sizes so be sure to read the product details for exact pocket dimensions and other storage options.

What is a "Butterfly" opening?

A butterfly case unzips all the way around and opens flat like a book. This makes it very easy to access your cues and see all your accessories at once. These are highly popular among tournament players who carry a lot of extra gear.

Is a shoulder strap or a handle better for carrying?

Most cases come with both. A padded shoulder strap is essential if you are walking long distances or carrying other gear, while a side handle is more convenient for short trips from your car to the pool hall. Select cases come with backpack style straps allowing you to distribute the weight evenly across your shoulders.

How do I clean and maintain my pool cue case?

For Vinyl or Synthetic cases, a damp cloth with mild soap is usually sufficient. For Genuine Leather cases, we recommend using a leather conditioner once or twice a year to prevent the material from drying out or cracking, especially in dry climates.
